Homework

At Moulton School, we believe homework should reinforce learning, develop independence and be an enjoyable experience for children and families.

Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1

  • Weekly oracy-based activities to develop speaking, listening and communication skills.
  • Daily reading and sharing books at home.

Years 2 to 6

  • Daily reading.
  • Regular practice on Times Tables Rock Stars (once children in Year 2 are ready).
  • Weekly Morphs Spelling activities to support spelling development.
  • Half-termly project-based homework linked to the curriculum, designed to be engaging, creative and enjoyable.

Year 6 (from January)

  • In addition to the above, pupils complete SATs LBQ tasks to help prepare for the end of Key Stage 2 assessments.

With the exception of daily reading, our approach to homework is intentionally flexible. We recognise the importance of family time, extracurricular activities and children's wellbeing. While most homework is optional, we actively encourage all children to take part by providing tasks that are engaging, practical and enjoyable, helping to develop a positive attitude towards learning beyond the classroom.
