Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Mrs Scott, Mrs Sharples and I (Miss Taig) would like to welcome you to our class page.

Below, you will find some useful information about what is going on in the Year 3 classroom this year.

Reading

Reading is such a vital part of a child's development, helping to build a broad vocabulary and to extend a child's knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Children must read with an adult at home at least 3 times a week. Please ensure that this is recorded in their reading diary. A member of the year 3 staff team will usually look at the children's reading diaries on a Friday.

To boost the children's understanding and comprehension skills, we also have a Guided Reading session once a week on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon.

English

Each half term, we explore a new high quality text. During English lessons, the children will develop an understanding of the spelling, punctuation and grammar that is expected in Year 3.

Texts:

Autumn: Seal Surfer and Winter's Child

Spring: Big Blue Whale and Escape from Pompeii

Summer: Snow Dragon and Journey

Maths

You can keep up to date with the children's Maths learning on Class Dojo.
It is very important that the children are practising their times tables weekly on Times Table Rockstars. The children must complete at least 10 games every week on TImes Tables Rockstars.

Topic

Autumn:

How much did the Ancient Egyptians achieve?

Where on earth are we?

Spring:

Is climate cool?

What was new about the Stone Age?

Summer:

How unpleasant were the Bronze and Iron Ages?

Do we like to be by the seaside?

PE

PE is taught on Mondays and Thursdays in Year 3. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school all week.

Communication

Keep up to date with what your child has been learning in school via Class Dojo - class story. You can also keep track of your child's behaviour and see how many dojos they have been awarded on a daily basis. Please don't hesitate to contact me (Miss Taig) or Mrs Sharples (on Thursdays) via the private message option on dojo.
